Sample MAP Grants

DC Employment Justice Center

DC Employment Justice Center, an organization that secures and enforces the rights of low-income workers in Greater Washington by providing legal assistance and organizing advocacy efforts, applied for a MAP grant after the departure of its co-founding executive director. Although EJC worked hard to ease the effects of the transition on donor relationships, the organization began to see a decline in funding. A $13,200 MAP grant helped EJC work with a consultant to develop and implement a fundraising plan, and supported fundraising training for board members and staff, which fostered greater clarity on their respective fundraising roles and responsibilities.

Center for Inspired Teaching

After experiencing two years of rapid growth, the Center for Inspired Teaching used a MAP grant to design systems to meet the needs of the organization’s much larger staff and to build a management team around the executive director so she could focus on broader organizational challenges. With a $25,000 MAP grant, Inspired Teaching worked with a consultant to create annual planning and budgeting processes that allowed senior staff to have more input in establishing organizational priorities, participate more fully in key organizational decisions, and become more accountable managers and more effective supervisors.

Patricia M. Sitar Center for the Arts

After a year of tremendous growth under new leadership, the Patricia M. Sitar Center for the Arts used a MAP grant to refine its tools and processes for evaluating the organization’s programs. A $25,000 MAP grant allowed Sitar to hire a consultant to develop evaluation instruments aligned with the organization’s mission statement, collect and analyze data, and train staff to modify and implement new instruments in subsequent years. As a result, the organization obtained valuable data that it will use to focus program design and inform resource allocation decisions.
